Just an idea I had bouncing around. It'd take some work from the devs so idk if it would be worth it, just thought it was interesting.
I assume they're going to do something to discard downvotes from frontends that retain downvotes, although ngl if they're stored anywhere anyways an opt-in setting to see those beside posts and comments with a text like "X angry libs" and just stop them from factoring into the actual post score or placement would be funny, to see what's pissing off the neo-redditors on other instances.
The code here is altered from main lemmy, but doing a search it seems that disabling downvotes automatically rejects downvotes from federated instances.
https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/pull/2128it'd be easier to just picky about who HexBear federates with
Of course it would be easier, but I'm not meaning to solve the exact problems or risks, I just think it would be an interesting feature regardless.
It's partly inspired by the silent downvoting I see on lemmy.ml. I guess disabling downvotes entirely is like 50 percent of the implementation of this anyway.
