The whole cast is unknowns, but it WORKS, dammit, it WORKS!

The striking shark researcher and star of the show. She's set up on an abandoned (due to climate change, peeps, remember! you gotta stay woke!) floating fishing village near Mozambique. She runs a blog site called, what else, Waterblogged! And her diverse team of woke employees who are totally in it for the mish and for their strong, sexy leading lady!

Then there's the sus ex bf with a cool research vessel, also a doctor, also on a mission. But for who, for what? He claims its to capture a family of dangerous, genetically modified bull sharks, but what's really going on? Why did the billionaire play with fire? How did the sharks get out of the bag? And why does this doc with the research ship have to step in and fix it? And then Lucas oh Lucas, the cute (in a Zach McGowan kind of way) right hand man to the sus ex BF... we know he's evil, we just don't know his plan, YET!

Best quote, from the villain (name, Lucas) natch:

"Do you really think they sent us here to develop drugs for slow kids? So they can get A's and learn to play the oboe on their way to Harvard? Genotics Labs didn't send us here to benefit mankind, ya dumb shit! They're just covering their asses, protecting their patents, and their stock price. Because the people who control things now, man, they will pay anything so their kids can control it all when everything starts turning to shit!"

Recommending 7/10 would watch again.

In a coincidence - last night I watched Deep Blue Sea (1). It's my favorite kind of so-bad-it's-good movie: a big budget, a cast with some surprisingly talented lead actors, and it was totally ridiculous.

        Don't forget Saffron Burrows.

Before I downloaded it - I was clicking around and I somehow ended up googling a great white shark called Deep Blue. It's one of the biggest great whites ever recorded. I guess that was the namesake for the movie.

        Deep Blue (great white shark)

Deep Blue is a female great white shark that is estimated to be 6.1 m (20 ft) long and over fifty years old. The shark was first spotted in Mexico by researcher Mauricio Hoyos Padilla. Deep Blue was featured on the Discovery Channel's Shark Week. The shark was spotted by marine biologists studying tiger sharks near the island of Oahu, Hawaii. Various videos show the shark as calm and non-aggressive around humans and even dolphins.

And then curiosity got the better of me and I checked out the Wikipedia page. I was surprised by the quality of the cast. And it was directed by Renny Harlin so I hoped it would be enjoyable slop.
