I've mentioned how indigenous history around the world has a common theme: There was a long period of brutal barbarism and some cultures managed to create a balance that was more ideal for an extended period of time. Plenty of others continued with barbarism and others also decided to develop further into nation-states.
How your present culture ends up depends on a lot of things, but I am inclined to agree that it will probably be a long period of barbarism in the US before a more ideal society arises in certain parts of the country.
