My theory is that someone found a cost effective way to switch to biodegradable and was convinced that the goodwill from being "green" would outweigh any extra expenses. When that goodwill turned on them they went back to the norm.
I know we're all pretty jaded here, but there are good people working for these evil companies, and sometimes they can actually make change happen. In the end capitalism will stamp it out, but I like to think people are trying. Not that these changes could ever amount to anything substantial, just that I like believing people can have good intentions.
