Maybe it should just be c/conspiracy, since that seems to be what you're going for moreso than specifically talking about the trueanon podcast.
One of the oversights of our policies here is that not allowing free creation of comms does stifle the growth of independent communities. We effectively work as one big community with very little distinction between comms, which is fine in some ways, considering our size, but perhaps ultimately shortsighted. what does it matter if most of the comms created would be ghost towns, as long as some of them became popular or distinct?
Agreed, r/trueanon demographic is like almost all single burnt out white hipster cishet men in their 30s
They seem less online, way more ironic/post irony than memey, and more doomer in a self destructively smoking cigarettes and popping oxys way than a lying in bed depressed type of way
I think the biggest culture shock is some people on that sub actually read theory.
Issue is, we don't attract new users, by design. With no influx of new users (except for if/when we federate), any niche comms will be ghost towns.
The unifying category for us is being leftists, with a dirtbag/terminally online bend so there's more interest in meme discussion for example. If users start making independent communities here, say I made a Dwarf Fortress community, there definitely would be some people who subscribe to it because they have a passing interest. There might be like 3 people who contribute actively because they happen to be big fans of the game. But what community of big fans of that game would migrate to this site, with such an idiosyncratic culture, just to participate in discussion of a game there's already official forums for? And if there was some incentive for them to join, how would the word get out?
I think that is fine, and that not approving any new comms actually stifles existing posters, the quality of which is what has thee potential to attract new people. Even if you find reddit insuffferable you might go to a particularly good subreddit there, people who don't 100% agree with us here could do the same. And frankly: what is actually harmed by a ghost town sub? at least then there is a consolidated place to post on a given topic, and find old posts in the same vein, even if it's only one post a week, who cares? just about everyone browses by All anyhow, so everyone will still have the opportunity to see every post more or less
