I disagree with this, a lot of those pastels would wash out on Justin Timberlake.

Which pastels look good on white people depends on particular skin undertones. The pale yellow on top right of JT's "wear these" would look bad.

I'm a pasty-ass and I look best in the colors at the bottom because I have a cool undertone and even cool pastels wash me out. This isn't good advice.

Finding your season is helpful though! I'm a winter and it made shopping a lot easier once I figured it out and I knew how to streamline my options to pick colors that I feel confident in. I had figured some stuff out on my own but didn't understand the underlying reasons, so clothes shopping was still kind of haphazard until I understood why some greens were good and some greens were bad, for example.
