There's almost 0 state efforts to preserve the cultural identities of immigrants of any kind

When people celebrate "diversity" in the West, it's just eating shawarma, drinking boba, watching Anime, listening to kpop, and eating at an Ethiopian restaurant. Pure commodification and consumerism masquerading as celebration and promotion of foreign cultures

Or you'll have people fetishizing about spicy latinas, lightskins, and Asians like they're fucking Pokemon cards

I do really wish my dad had taught me his first language when I was a kid. It's not super useful, and even he only speaks it when talking to his mom, but I do feel like I'm not a "real" [insert niche ethno-religious group here] when I can't speak the language, don't practice the religion, and barely engage in it beyond using the occasional loan word or making food I ate growing up

Yiddish for me. Completely dead by the third generation leaving eastern Europe...sadness

Instead I study Russian, which was also completely dead by the third generation, but at least native speakers and resources are readily available all over the place. Also, for some reason, when I was a kid my mom made sure I got a start with the language.

Dont ever feel less for having one less language skill than your Father. I am sure you have a multitude of qualities and skills that make you unique, interesting and worthy.
