Mewtwo had some good points but it needed theory. One struggle session and it packs up the party and leaves
The Pokemon and clone Pokemon were so sad fighting each other in that movie.

Maybe "normal" Pokemon battles are all kayfabe, and they don't like being forced to fight for real.
