But the working class needs much more. And these moments when workers have huge strategic power in a tight labor market are fleeting.
The Nation has been getting more radical as a news outlet and column outlet lately.
Thoughts on the article?
Thoughts on the UPS victory in general?
Yeah i meant full time, 100 years of labor productivity increases yet still 8 hours work days seems like bullshit
I mean it is, that's true. But it may require more union power than even the teamsters have to shift such a huge norm, IMO, and would need to be coupled with equally strong demands for part time workers, which I believe are more than half the workforce
Depends if they are 24/7 (i would think so), then next natural jump is 6-6.5 hours, which amount to 33 percent jump in wages. They can't bear it as is (their labor and benefits is 11 billion, profit 2 billion roughly), so maybe thats flat out not possible without reducing per hour pay. (depending on which portion is benefits)
UPS isn't 24/7 really. Package handlers mostly work overnight, though I think there are two shifts? and delivery drivers only work during the day really. I had a buddy that worked there a long time, so this is just from memory ofc
