I'd laugh so hard if future history books regard Orkney as triggering the dissolution of the United Kingdom.

The Scots will never live it down if that happened.

Those are Danish, not Norwegian. Norway only has a couple of islands, with Svalbard being the main one I think. Denmark has 2 actual colonies in the atlantic that we do horrific shit to.

Thank you for correcting me, sorry I mixed up distinct peoples.

I don’t know much about the differences between Norway and Denmark. Is there hope that this would actually be a good move and Norway would be chill? For my frame of reference: I’ve seen Lillehammer. That’s all I know.

I think this is mostly political grandstanding and people in abandonned communities trying to get the central government to notice them. However there is a decent chance that if the Orkneys somehow get absorbed into Norway proper, that they will be treated decently, since Norway doesn't really have the same colonial past that Denmark does, and was themselves pretty much considered a ressource colony up until their independence.

WHAT FUCKING DOWRY WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE. WHO would you pay this to? the danish royal family, since it was Denmark-Norway at the time? or the Norwegians? or do the Norwegians need to pay the English Crown, now possessed by a completely different family?

fucking monarchist brain rot, completely terminal

even if it were so innocent as looking for a loophole the UK's soverignty & the possessions of its royal family are separate things these days so it's a feeble suggestion
