I was wondering how this would affect them. Hope they are doing alright

I'm really confused by the copy on the GoFundMe page.

On July 26, the band Mdou Moctar 's home country of Niger was thrown into chaos and uncertainty when a right-wing group of militants violently overthrew the democratically elected president of the nation.

seems to be completely at odds with a quote from the musician himself, found in an interview linked on the very same page:

“For 48 years France has exploited the uranium in our country, and yet we still don’t have roads, medicines and in many places there is no water or electricity,” he says. “France says we are independent now but we have no independence, we are modern slaves. They say this is an Africa problem, but we have had enough of what France is doing to us; it’s as if we’re still in the 15th century.”

Seems sus enough to make me question the legitimacy of this GFM campaign. Am I being a dumbass?
