How is Cassette Beasts by the way? I've almost bought it a few times but I've been burned by so many Pokemon-likes before...

I haven't gotten really far into it but it's pretty fun and does a lot to push the genre forward past Pokemon, like type vulnerabilities give different bonuses, say like attacking a plastic type with a fire attack will melt the plastic type into a poison type for a few turns, also duo battles are the norm instead of the exception and the SSJ monster fusions are neat. Also there's a faction that's initially talked about like their vampires but end up being investment realtors.

Yeah I do tend to do that sometimes, it is something that happens within like the first hour of the game and kinda gives an idea of what the writing is like.

The combat is pretty shallow in my opinion. The type match up statuses are more of a gimmick than an actually usable strategy. I thought the music was great, but some of the songs are repetitive.

Every battle is a double battle and there is a fusion mechanic that is kind of fun to play with. And you transfoem into the monsters so there's a meta-healthbar of your character, but that rarely actually affects anything.

I actually liked the overworld movement, especially after a certain upgrade. And structure wise, the game has quest hints and quest markers for where to go and it feels like a lite open world. Overall I found it refreshing and it had some heart.
