What's the context? Track lighting or something, it's gonna be fine.
Oh geez, yeah, a whole house knob and tube replacement would super suck. Good luck, comrade.
I think that's a buyproduct of renting a space. Cheaper to install, easier to remove, is an ugly trip hazard but at least you get your bond back at the end
someone who knows more of what they’re talking about

It shouldn't run along the ground, no, but the same is true for it not being in the walls. Is this a new build/does it not have wire runs already?
Either way, you ideally want a permanent circuit that's out of the way for safety, with GFCI outlets. Having external/surface wiring exposes it to more wear and tear than otherwise, can be a hassle running through doorways etc.
If you have the opportunity to do it right and don't need to remove it when the lease runs out, you might as well go the extra mile?
What kind of construction are we talking? If it’s North American stick and drywall, putting it inside the wall isn’t too bad, you just might need to buy new drywall or spend a lot of time in the attic.
If it’s extensive wiring I would definitely recommend a professional contractor and go with their recommendation
Ah, well I have no experience with that kind of construction. Sorry. Wishing you luck with your contractor.
