US: "Duuuuuuh maybe more sanctions will stop the self sufficient country with lots of land, allies and over a billion people."
Fucking hilarious. China isn't a cut off island like Cuba, but US leaders are so dumb that all they can do is eat hot chip, sanction and lie.
All they're doing is accelerating the decoupling of the rest of the world from the US economy 🤣
And the stuff they don't have themselves they can get from Russia, another large country, with vast natural resources right on their border that had also been pushed by harebrained sanctions to become independent from western supply chains.
The US and Europe are sanctioning China's advance chip production, but they also say that most of that is useless for current uses and that China's more common and less advanced chips are used everywhere from consumer to military tech, and they're scared that China will use production against the west during war.
I'm no ivy league economist or west point tactician, but it seems pissing off the largest producers of your military tech for no reason while not building productive forces of your own is an extremely poor strategy.
for war you don't need leading edge chips so yeah that logic doesn't make sense. china's doing a decent job of making memory and controllers n stuff for SSDs. I was thinking about buying a Chinese SSD from China but then I realized I have enough storage space as is. i hope one day they can make competitive GPUs :)
It's too late, Joe. America's racist policies already drove a whole host of brilliant Chinese scientists and engineers back home with all of the knowledge they helped create. Every time you tighten your grip, more and more of the semiconductor market slips out of your grasp.
American scientists researched an innovative battery technology, but it got shelved by the US for decades. Chinese scientists scoured through some papers, realized the potentials, and decided to get an official license from the US to manufacture it. Now China is largest manufacturer of this battery. The US requires them to sell a certain amount to the US each year to retain the license, but it seems that China just ignored that provision and kept manufacturing the batteries anyway lmao. https://www.npr.org/2022/08/03/1114964240/new-battery-technology-china-vanadium
We are going to win by forcing China to figure out how to be more competitive in global markets, as this startegy has worked very well in the past
Lol they're treating China like some random poor country in Africa which can be ordered around by the threat of starving everyone in the country to death.
US officials listening to some natsec strategist ghoul thinking "Chips? Like potato chips? Is that all they eat? That does make sense since that's poor people food... Well I for one say let's starve these perfidious celestials!" and agreeing to every dumbshit thing they're told to do.
Isn't there someone you forgot to ask?
