I still don't get it. He's just seen first hand how dangerous Blackbeard was and how his crew took down Garp and currently have a former admiral on their side.
He should be brainstorming how to take down Blackbeard because Blackbeard will actually take over the world and is just using everything in the world to his advantage no matter how dishonorable it is.
I do think Koby and Luffy will still team up in the end to take down Blackbeard since it parallels their first encounter as Koby was taken prisoner by both Alvida and Blackbeard before being saved by a D clan member in Luffy and Garp.
That would also parallel Roger and Garp teaming up to take down Rocks!
Only thing I can think of is that he's been trying to keep up with Luffy this whole time in pursuing their respective dreams and this is how he thinks of being on the same level. But like his dream was to be an admiral, so I don't know that's really required?? Strange boy.
