This was always going to be Richard Dawkins’ path. Over the past few years he’s really leaned into it though and now he knows where to get for his toast.
A few months ago Dawkins was calling himself “culturally Christian” to show that he was against the Ramadamification of Christmas in Br*tain.
It was never about atheism, science, rationality, or enlightenment values. It was about otherizing non-white (edit: and non-cis people) people in Europe and “The West.” It’s why the new atheists got popular after 9/11 and why nobody blinked when people like Sam Harris were going around calling for nuclear first strikes against “the Muslim world.”

In hindsight it's pretty obviously a movement to divorce white supremacy from anti intellectualism
So basically just English academia for the last 250 years
