Wait, isn't Black Mesa just HL1 a fan remake in half life source engine? Wouldn't remaking Black Mesa in the hl1 engine just be....hl1?

A remake is not the same as a remaster, in that they rebuild a game from the ground up. Sometimes this doesn't just mean new assets, but also mechanics that have been changed or modernized, some changes in the story, additional content, etc. Black Mesa is not a 1:1 conversion of the original Half-Life.

Ah, okay I'm looking at some videos of black mesa now and didn't realize they changed/added so much. I thought it was just using the hl2:ep 2 graphics/physics.

This is definitely interesting, but i'm not sure who the intended audience for this is. Seems like it can't be that many people. Cool idea though.

Yeah, I'm not sure either. Black Mesa on the Source Engine made sense at least, because it was catering to people who had never played Half-Life, and could now do so with a fresh coat of paint. It was also fascinating for longtime fans to see that world come to life on a more modern engine. This demake version doesn't look that interesting to me.
