I would be opposed to bringing it back locally, but I'm wondering if there's some way to enable it only for federated posts. Afaik we're the only instance that does it this way, and while I think it's a good thing, it wouldn't be unreasonable to allow it on posts from communities that allow it.

Changed my mind and I think the correct move would be to push for its removal across the lemmyverse, as Nako suggested.
