Pasteurization was invented in the 1860s and they felt like they needed it then. Edit: Wikipedia says 1886 is when it was first suggested to pasteurize milk. So close enough. link

Pasteurization was invented in the 1860s and they felt like they needed it then.
Edit: Wikipedia says 1886 is when it was first suggested to pasteurize milk. So close enough.
