I'm from a country where nothing aside from movies and shows aimed at children and the narration of nature documentaries (and in that case only the national public broadcaster really bothers doing that) gets dubbed and everything else is subtitled, which is probably why dubbing has always seemed like an unnecessary practice to me. I just don't see the point when you can just slap subtitles on a piece of media instead.
