Unexpectedly encountering ace combat politics at 6am when you haven't fully waken up yet is, i suspect, in the same zip code as what a stroke feels like.

Ace Combat by its setting should be an intensely political game but the games cant really seems to articulate a political point beyond "Planes are Cool but war is Bad"

        Ace Combat Zero spoilers

Ace Combat Zero went a bit deeper into it, the game is basically: "WW2, but it ends the cold war instead of starting it, and Nazi Germany has nukes and nukes itself to prevent a land invasion. Also the USA borders Europe and the USSR is an ocean away in this universe ". It was an interesting thought experiment from a story perspective.

Brodie I am a mercenary pilot; as long as there are two nations in Strangereal, somebody is gonna want somebody's obscenely-sized non-nuclear superweapon put in the dirt.

The fact that I understand this...

But in Ace Combat 7 the radical Eurasean military officers basically do operation paperclip with a mad Belkan scientist to get a drone army to try take over the world, manipulating the princess to support the war, and and Mihaly Shilage to give them flight data for the drones. The solution to Belka after Ace Combat Zero was to turn the capital into a principality, and divide it into east and west (similar to Germany post WW2), which clearly didn't work given the events of Ace Combat 5.
