Once inside, Harris hugged and comforted a crying customer, telling the older woman that, “We’re going to be fine. We’re all in this together.”

Harris’ X/Twitter account then posted, “I look forward to using my new seasonings from Penzeys Spices in Pittsburgh at our next Sunday family dinner.”

After that, conservative Fox News dug up Penzeys’ left-leaning history and right-wing influencer Laura Loomer began howling about boycotts. Fox News called Penzeys the “meanest spice business in America,” while Trump derided its “Terrible Over-Priced Product.”

A spice company has drawn the ire of former President Donald Trump and right-wing media after Vice President Kamala Harris visited its Pittsburgh store and the owner’s progressive politics became online fodder.

Penzeys Spices founder Bill Penzey, however, is taking the backlash in stride, telling his hometown Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that his company lost almost 3,200 email subscribers following Harris’ visit but gained over 7,700.

“So far, so good,” he told the newspaper.

Dialing its response up a notch, the Penzeys Facebook page offered a discount on gift cards and orange-colored spices and seasonings last weekend.

“D. Trump and Fox want to drive us out of business. $50 Gift Cards for $35 help stop them,” Penzeys wrote on Friday. “Donald Trump and the right wing media are trying to drive us out of business because last weekend we welcomed Kamala Harris into our Pittsburgh store where she hugged one of our customers. Please send us your money : )”

The saga started Sept. 8 when Harris was welcomed by a cheering crowd at the Penzeys store in Pittsburgh’s Strip District while she was in town preparing for the Sept. 10 debate against Trump. The company also has a store in Philadelphia.

The Journal Sentinel reported that reviewer Yelp froze posting on the company’s page from an onslaught of fake negative reviews.

This isn’t anything new for Trump and his most fervent supporters. As NBC News reported earlier this year, Trump followers have threatened judges, jurors and prosecutors involved in his many criminal cases after he has lashed out at them online.

Penzeys responded to the backlash and threats in its Facebook post, telling customers they would stand its ground against Trump supporters but needed help.

Your post reminded me that I entirely forgot Bluesky. This is from 7 days ago.

God bless Penzeys, my home sweet home, etc. From today's email:

"it seems I am now an N word lover and a C word sucker. Plus they do like the other C word as well...There’s power in words. We are running half off all spices and seasonings that begin with the letters N and C to take back that power."
