Seeing as my pc can't run either 3ds emulation or ps3, my options are limited for a proper sequel to 2, Ex Troopers. So I'm wondering if I should give 3 a go even though I heard it's bad? I like that it's set in a snowscape and has a focus on survival horror, both pluses, but the footage I've seen the core gameplay looks a bit jank.

it has some pretty cool first person mecha gameplay, but afaik (i could never stick with it enough to finish) there are no mecha guns, only melee with drills and claws and grappling hook hands. on foot gameplay disappointed me especially compared to the first 2 lost planet games, its basically a worse gears of war style cover shooter imo, whereas lost planet 1 and 2 had almost monster-hunter-esque gameplay with those classic dodge animations and invulnerability frames and the option to have centered camera.

pretty much, the first 2 lost planet games had some immaculate arcadey 3rd person gameplay, i was super hyped for 3 until i actually played it lol. i think they gave it to a completely different dev team for 3?

I think so. Capcom shipped off a couple IPs to Canadian devs I think.

Extremely mediocre game. LP2 is getting patched on steam soon though to restore multiplayer functionality though!

I've played it and it's absolutely one of the action games of all time. Don't remember a goddamn thing about it.
