This is ultimately US imperialism at work. Washington (via its fascist Kiev puppet dictatorship) tried the same assassination "strategy" vs numerous Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics leaders (not to mention the West's assassinations of an almost infinitely long list of other national liberation leaders over the past 75+ years). At the end of the day, you can not assassinate a liberation movement just by killing leadership figures. When a critical historical reason for such movements exist, new leaders will always replace the old. The Western imperialists' plan will inevitably fail.
That being said, Iran should definitely develop nuclear weapons, which is the only real, hard power way to counter fascist Tel Aviv and Washington's arsenals. All the other "military imbalance" issues are trivial by comparison.
