Blaming revolutionaries for reactionaries' responses to their actions inevitably ignores the fact that the reactionaries were already doing and would continue to do the horrible acts in question. 200 people being lynched barely qualifies as an average Tuesday under chattel slavery, but here acts like it was an unexpected event that could only happen if the slaves dared to demand their freedom at gunpoint.
The Nazis would also regularly engage in mass killing of civilians in reprisal for resistance actions in the area. Most people seem to have the good sense not to condemn anti-Fascist militancy though
