no, you're right. but that's the thing: jokes aside, we used to be liberals. i wouldn't count the support i showed the trans community as a lib "solidarity". it was a liberal show of support (which can still be heartening to see!) but it's not solidarity of the sort that exists between comrades. the sad reality is that as much as we want this, there is no solidarity to be had with liberals.
