I'd like to start doing regular stretches, either daily or 3-4 times a week, whatever is best. Do you have any beginner programs and tips to share?

I'd also like to incorporate a ~5 minute plank workout I found online. I think stretches should always been last, so I should start with the planks, right? Does doing 5 minutes of planks warrant a warm up before starting?

I do 5 sun salutations (look up ashtanga videos... these can be as simple or as intense as you want, there are a lot of variations depending on your capability) the minute I get out of bed. I go pee then I am on the mat.

I have been keeping that going for about a year.

I used to do more (10) of higher intensity, but less frequently and in the afternoon as part of a workout, but I would go through periods of not doing any.

since starting every morning with a quick set to wake up my entire body, it's been transformational for my entire day: better posture, better balance, just generally spending more time mentally and instinctively in my body.

I like doing the Qi Gong stretches in the morning. You'll find videos on youtube about it, both complete 15-20min routines and an overview of all the stretches/moves.

It makes me feel more awake and despite that it's not hard physical exercise, after a while you start feeling more fit/healthy.

You should always stretch before and after exercise. First as warmup, then as cooldown.
