Due to recent events and the discussion in the Amendments to the Code of Conduct post we are suspending provisional amendments to the Code of Conduct in specific regard to federation. As we continue to find our footing we may discuss this again.
The rule change in !the_dunk_tank@hexbear.net prohibiting named posts of Admins and Moderators as well as direct links posts will remain for now.
Despite the suspension of the amendments, I encourage everyone to treat other others with good-faith unless they show otherwise, show considerable restraint in instance's meta posts, and abide by meta community post's requests to center discussion on local users.
Reminder that you must follow Hexbear and federated instances codes of conduct and posted sidebar rules for communities.
You may use this post to discuss further if you wish to
I think the dunk tank can serve a valuable purpose on federation in that it is a place where we can name and shame the worst reactionaries on the platform. That's where we can tell them directly by pinging them from the dunk tank post instead of on their home instance where their local moderators probably don't give a shit. Nothing about calling in back up in an argument or trying to change anyone's mind, but rather having a place where we can publicly mock people for being open fascists, racists, queerphobes, ableists, and imperialists. We can provide a sense of social consequence that prevents reactionaries from thinking they can just say whatever they want without challenge even on other instances.
Granted, this should really only be applied to the worst of the lemmy users. Garden variety libs should, I think, get more gentle treatment until it's very clear they're acting in bad faith.
perhaps only if they do something that would get them banned here, like racism, ableism, transphobia, advocating for the death of homeless people, etc
Like, fuck alll those people right?
if there is an instance with those sorts of people in it, it should be defederated. dunking on instances we're not federated with is fine. "social consequence" -- we're not gonna be the cops of lemmy. If we're federated, there are going to be parts that are cringe. Hexbear can be focused on hexbear, and people who want to be active in other communities can engage with them individually.
