Can’t believe Romania invaded uyghurland smh

Also uyghurland would probably be the name given to that area if it was in Africa and got colonized

Uyghuristan because it's Turkic? Mongolia and Manchuria are non-Turkic.

Edit: Apparently some Uyghurs, though especially the nationalists, want their country to be known as (East) Turkistan and themselves as Turks or Turkistanis.

Maybe the joke's too deep for me, but "yoghurts" is in poor taste. This is indistinguishable from a racist post.

The joke might stop being made if westerners stopped mispronouncing it while pretending to care.

Here's the pronunciation audio. "Ooy-ghur". (The German and Russian pronunciations seem pretty close to me.) English-speakers say "wee-gur", which is kinda far from the original, but so is, I dunno, "Japan", so it's not a mispronunciation, it's the official pronunciation being bad.

The joke about people pretending to care when they don't even know the first thing about Uyghurs is perfectly fair, I just don't like how it sounds like it's making fun of the actual name of the people.

I would like to introduce the first half of your sentence to the second half—it seems they are not fully acquainted yet for some reason.

You have already had the joke explained, why are you still clutching your pearls over fucking nothing?

I get what the joke is going for, but I don't like how it sounds anyway? Those aren't mutually exclusive things.

I'm not calling you a racist or anything that would amount to "pearl-clutching". A joke is meant to entertain. Instead, it mildly rustles my jimmies. I'm expressing the fact of said rustling. Take that as you will.
