Looks like my account was banned/restricted for the above interaction, have already sent the mods on world an email asking if they'd be willing to reverse that. Had an episode of psychosis a few months ago where I did say some offensive stuff, (understandably) got a 3 month ban on .lol for that, so could see my account having been flagged.

I uh, I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect people to check others profiles to ensure we are correctly pronouning them… when making a throw away comment that is less than 10 words involving a ludicrously common saying. Jerboa does not show users pronouns. I could switch to an app that DOES show the pronouns, do any Lemmings have a recommendation for a free Lemmy mobile app that has that feature?

Edit: Edie chimed in, Jerboa does show pronouns. It's a formatting issue with mobile vs browser (She has them on individual text lines so they don't appear on mobile).

Was just going to respond to the user in question to let them know I wasn't purposefully trying to offend that individual, to discover I'm not able to post or make comments on world now, so figured I'd see what y'alls opinion on the matter is.

Does the term come from the comic or is that comic just someone who decided to illustrate what the term meant? I have seen the whole comic, I'm more asking about a chicken-egg thing, out of curiosity.

gamergate era cryptofascists started getting really excited when they realized the comic never actually had the sea lion's questions addressed.

That's fucking funny. That's like the online debatebro version of idolizing Tony Montana

Gamergate-honed tactic for when a sea lioning question is thoroughly answered in a way that can't be dismissed as "bias" or "a narrative(tm)" or even "fake news" is to ignore that response.

One of the things I love about hexbear is that people are very good at pointing out when this happens and pursuing the user. I've personally had a lot of fun doing that stuff too. Lots of scratched libs.

Yeah I sometimes think of a comic that was about how videogame developers often make the bad guys have the saddest outfits and then wonder why people like the bad guys. There's a reason why "weird" made chuds mad and it's that it wasn't cool

                    I can't wait for andor season 2.
They also made the bad guys look like dweebs. The sad cereal with blue milk scene while he was berated by his mother was just chefs-kiss

I've also noticed "shut up nerd" or "shut up loser" works a lot better when calling out fascists in the internet wild than actually describing the horrors they crave.

Probably one of the big reasons so many scratched libs dislike hexbear is because they don't get treated with respect and instead get called dorks (which is a good thing). Had we just gone about being civil, then they wouldn't give a shit what we think (because they could then ignore it and treat it like they treat all other opinions, like something that should be put away before someone gets hurt)

Love it every time I see it. I wonder if the author knew they'd get a concept named after it. Sort of like the Bechdel test I guess

The guys behind Penny Arcade are a bit of an enigma to me. I liked them when I was young, the I reread some of their comics and came to think of them as dicks, but at that point they themselves had also matured - or at least seems like they have.
            They were very 2000/2010's-core

I haven't seen them in years, but I loved Loading Ready Run and they made a reality show together that was pretty good. I was an edgy teen and thought dickwolvves were funny. About 2 years ago I remembered penny arcade existed and checked them out again, I don't remember any of their comics which probably means they're not egregious. I looked into the dickwolf saga and jfc yikes-2
I think they might just have learned to shut up, which is the best wee can hope for with most libs
