    In the 2000's there was a right-wing animated TV show called Drawn Together starring Adam Carolla that had a main character who was a direct analogue of Link. The main character trait and running joke was that Link was gay. Link being gay coded was already uncontroversial with conservatives all the way back when the wii was a hot new console and plastic guitar controllers were cool.
