Anecdotal but the term "Yahood" (Jews in Arabic) has been used interchangeably with Zionists / 'israelis'.

It's the same as the indigenous people calling their invaders "white". If you come in and create an ethnostate under Judaism, people under their oppression will correlate Judaism with the ethnostate.

My parents went through this, they're better about it now but my Mom's explanation was along the lines of: "When I lived there, I never met an anti-zionist Jew"

Yeah, I fully understand and yet feel no inclination to go to bat for Osama. I've read his views in this interview and a bunch of places and I'm fairly comfortable saying he was more than likely an antisemite if the definition of such is "hatred of Jews simply for being Jewish." Now, of course I've also heard what you typed there from Arabs and Jews alike. It makes it extremely hard to call someone (from the region surrounding Israel) antisemitic for "hating The Jews" when an entire population literally call themselves "The Jews" while bombing civilians. The state apparatus has turned the word Jew into a religious term, ethnic term and nationalistic term. The only reason I do believe ObL is antisemitic is because of his other views regarding Islam and Judaism and such. I wish more of this type of discussion could be had within reasonable bounds without people flipping their shit, but I understand why it doesn't happen...
