But I wonder how many of them are just parroting what their parents are saying.

I've long had the opinion that the kids that vote in this are a reflection of what their parents are talking about, which helps to explain its apparent accuracy.
"Mom, I'm gonna vote!"
"On what?"
"On the presidential election!"
"Really? Show me."
Still probably more predictive than that goober who rambles about the keys to the whote house or whatever
