As a Chicagoan these lanes are EVERYWHERE and car brains HATE THEM and they are AWESOME. I skate and bike in them and they're just so nice. It's usually faster to get around on bike now than any other method. Bike stores around me are basically always sold out of bikes because everyone is buying them now.
And my understanding is the city has no intention of slowing down the deployment of these. It's been so nice.

Do they clear them in the winter too?
Not well, but honestly Chicago doesn't clear the roads well in the winter either so this isn't much different.
