    Liberals simultaneously believe that Trump is a unique fascist threat who will destroy all democratic norms, and also that there is absolutely nothing that the government can do to stop him. Pathetic

      The first part is correct, but he’s also a useful tool to discipline the voters who didn’t vote for the Democrats., so they also welcome him.

      Liberals believe that the institution is strong enough that Trump can give the people who sat out of the election a “taste” of what will happen when they don’t support the Democrats, but the institution can also rein in on what Trump can actually do in his presidency to harm the interests of the establishment.

        I think the other side of this coin is that liberals have watched fascist rule convert back into liberal democracy so many times now that they understand fascism is not a threat to them, just a temporary state of affairs. They are content to accept the situation, wait for fascism to do its thing(remove undesirables and communist threats) and then convert back.
