i was thinking it would be very helpful for Degrassi fans around the wider Frediverse to chat about one of the most iconic shows of all time. with over 20 years of canon and 20+ seasons of content, it is lore-rich and has a storied history as well as a cultural presence that outlives the show, with stars like Drake and Nina Dobrev making their mark in the world in their own right.
i think this comm would be good for the site as a community-building exercise. we could do a watch group and get everyone in on it. the show teaches themes like compassion, courage, and honesty, which i think are important for any leftist to develop and nurture.
it touches on LGBTQIA+ issues and is genuinely very progressive, even by today's standards. where most characters address the struggles of transfem people, Degrassi represents less-touched on groups such as transmasc and non-binary identities, going so far as to address things such as neopronouns with the gravity and respect they deserve.
anyway, thank you for reading and please make the comm
I'm OG next generation trained. So up until the Emma, Liberty, Manny era graduation. I reject the Emma Spinner pair.
My favorite used to be Emma but now it might be Paige. Looking back on the show and Emma was a menace, no clue why I liked her so much haha.
