Consider the dynamic that happened 2008-2012. Bush crashed the economy and left the country with a social crisis and two wars. Obama came in as the anti-Bush promising hope and change. When he completely failed to achieve anything good with control of all three branches of government, what happened? It spawned the populist movement beyond the tea party that seized on Obama's failures to hijack working class alienation and turn it into Trump. Democrats got the blame for everything and it resulted in liberals checking out enough to lose the government to a worse form of Newt Gingrich's republicans.
The result is going to be more or less the same either way, it's Freikorps vs. Fuhrer, but in one scenario Trump has no one to blame for his failure to respond to the crises and liberals stay engaged on the opposition. In the other Biden is blamed for the pandemic lasting through next summer because a large number of people don't follow mask laws in this Bernie state with mask laws. He's blamed for the economic collapse which he won't be able to solve because his policies are too compromised. The militias will continue to grow and radicalise and he's more likely to side with them than he is BLM considering how he has now twice threatened to shoot us in the leg. Come 2022 and 2024, the democratic voters will check out because the democrats failed them and we'll get something worse than Trump and McConnell.
If dems could take the house and senate but not the presidency, I think that would have the best chance at some kind of stability. Trump without the senate and without funding from the house will be a lame duck whose role is to destroy whatever is left of the republican image. Maybe there'd even be an actual impeachment trial.
