How is Biden worse than Trump? Please persuade me.
republicans do imperialism with a sledgehammer, democrats do it with surgical precision (or closer to that)
the former is disastrous and kills a lot of people (eg the iraq war), which generates a lot of fallout and bad PR, the latter just exterminates their enemies and no one gives a fuck (eg obama dismantling the pink tide and being responsible for the syrian refugee crisis, something literally no one talks about)
trump is also incredibly lazy compared to other republicans - he has the same imperialist ethics, but not the same imperialist zeal
basically trump is horrible but he's also kinda dumb and lazy, whereas biden is more experienced and knows more effective people to put in charge of these actions
domestically, from a materialist point of view, they're about the same
that said, the difference isn't that big and you should stop wasting your time with american electoral politics - it's supposed to be a side project at most, that game is completely rigged
He'd be more effective at getting the nefarious stuff done since he's a comparatively competent leader and not a bumbling idiot that can't hold down a cabinet.
That being said, I don't personally judge someone for voting lesser of two evils. Just don't cast a ballot, pat yourself on the back, and disengage with politics. That's really the heart of the issue; too much emphasis on electoral politics.
And this hardly ever comes up, but everyone is acting like the Trump supporters/proud boys/MAGA crew is just gonna "go away" if Trump loses. They're here to stay, baby! The MF'er was the original source of the "Obama is a secret African Muslim" conspiracy BS. They're going to be undermining the liberals from Day 1 and they're organized and mobilized.
Don't forget that Trump himself doesn't go away either. He'll still be there stoking his base, going on fox and infowars and shit, saying the quiet part out loud even more than he already is since he won't have the accountability that he has now since he won't be in office
Brunch libs think everything goes away when they vote once every 5 years.
I see a lot of shit about imperialism. So no matter what we’re going to get imperialism. But as a trans woman who just transitioned, how will Trump protect me over Biden in this election. Neoliberal politics will at least ensure that I won’t be exterminated for my identity. Trump has already made several assaults on trans people. I don’t want to die.
The one i hear most often is that a biden win would mean the libs will go back to sleep
I've heard that one too but I don't really buy it, if Biden loses it'll just be 4 more years of the libs blaming Trump for everything wrong with America and fundraising off how awful he is while continuing to fail to stop him. Is that supposed to be better than them fucking off back to brunch? Like, they're not exactly helping when they're "awake" now lol
Yeah, it's just what i hear from people here, I don't think i'll be able to tell the difference between a sleeping lib and an awake one tbh
Structurally, there's no discernible difference. Libs awake and asleep are unquantifiable abstracts.
Consider the dynamic that happened 2008-2012. Bush crashed the economy and left the country with a social crisis and two wars. Obama came in as the anti-Bush promising hope and change. When he completely failed to achieve anything good with control of all three branches of government, what happened? It spawned the populist movement beyond the tea party that seized on Obama's failures to hijack working class alienation and turn it into Trump. Democrats got the blame for everything and it resulted in liberals checking out enough to lose the government to a worse form of Newt Gingrich's republicans.
The result is going to be more or less the same either way, it's Freikorps vs. Fuhrer, but in one scenario Trump has no one to blame for his failure to respond to the crises and liberals stay engaged on the opposition. In the other Biden is blamed for the pandemic lasting through next summer because a large number of people don't follow mask laws in this Bernie state with mask laws. He's blamed for the economic collapse which he won't be able to solve because his policies are too compromised. The militias will continue to grow and radicalise and he's more likely to side with them than he is BLM considering how he has now twice threatened to shoot us in the leg. Come 2022 and 2024, the democratic voters will check out because the democrats failed them and we'll get something worse than Trump and McConnell.
If dems could take the house and senate but not the presidency, I think that would have the best chance at some kind of stability. Trump without the senate and without funding from the house will be a lame duck whose role is to destroy whatever is left of the republican image. Maybe there'd even be an actual impeachment trial.
The galaxy brain take is he'll be as bad as trump except actually effective at it. Except biden is also an incompetent senile geezer who everybody knows is a joke.
Another galaxy brain take is that it'll be worse because people will let their guard down. Which can kind of sound like "it'll be worse because it'll be better". Because letting your guard down at one end of the spectrum is like a wine mom being able to enjoy TV again and the other is an immigrant gets to not be scared of daily life again. It's not clear to me that society being afraid is better.
Mathematically, it doesn't matter who you vote for. I'm not too stubborn to admit that Biden is better than Trump
Trying to measure a net good or evil from this single election is pointless. Trump is better in some ways (mainly his gross incompetence), Biden is better in some ways. Either way we have no sway over the election and should maintain the left position that they are both bourgeoisie politicians and neither has our support.
I feel like the argument is more "if trump wins we'll accelerate the negative conditions necessary to be conducive to some sort of leftist revolution," rather then Trump being better.
Personally, I don't think the last 4 years really give any evidence at all that the left has grown under Trump
