I really needed to make some "weekend food" tonight and I was craving something middle eastern. Here is what I made.

Fattoush, a levantine salad with pieces of fried pita bread.

Batat harra: Spicy fried potatoes with garlic, cumin, chili and turmeric

Hummus: The noble chickpea spread

Kifteh: These are not unauthentic. They should have been lamb but have you seen the price of that lately? I made them with some beef I had in the freezer instead. I mixed it with parsley, onion, garlic, cinnamon, black pepper and sumac. I also added some bacon (making them ridiculously haram) to make them smokier and jucier.

Out of frame there is a batch of homemade pita bread.

"wildly inauthentic" is one of my favorite ways of cooking. I put tomato paste in my Japanese curry rice
