Hi comrades, it’s yappening again - you're invited to drop in chat about what's on your mind in Webfishing!

That's a wrap for today, thanks to everyone who stopped by!

FAQ and Rules have been moved to this post
I figure most people who are interested in this have already had the chance to read through this stuff but on the odd chance that you haven't yet, you can still find everything right there in the linked post.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Fair enough. I settled on Webfishing because it's a compromise that offers enough of the right things while being low on demand for system resources and cheap. Ideally it would be free and independent of Steam but I don't think it will ever happen and at least so far it seems locked into being a Steam-only release.

If it's a matter of being prohibitively expensive, I have offered to cover the cost of the game for people who are Hexbear users who aren't brand new accounts, since I don't want to have the admins flooded with requests for new accounts just to grab a freebie and I've got better things to put my money towards aside from people looking to exploit this opportunity (I know that this would exclude you but I'm happy to bend my own rules in your case). If you fall into this category of the purchase price being outside of your means then just send me a DM and we can work it out from there.

If it's about not doing Steam, I get that. It seems that Webfishing is available on piracy sites like The Pirate Bay. I haven't tried this option myself but the download is >100MB. If that's more your style and you want to see if it will work then let me know when you've got your hands on a copy and we can make a time soon to test out whether you're capable of joining a server using a cracked copy - my hunch is yes because the game in its current state is slapped together with little more than duct tape and hope but there's no telling what will happen until we actually give it a shot.

Hopefully that provides you with an acceptable option and if not, I understand why that would be and I'm sorry that I'm not able to offer something more suitable for you.

i can't torrent at the moment due to unreliable internet (based on mobile data, i have one of those routers that use a sim card lmao), maybe tomorrow or something!

when i get a copy, i will dm you. i hope i have time to play fibsh as well, i want to be a funny cat or something. i thank you for this opportunity lol. i can't use a vpn due to price and even rural internet not being ideal so i will break ground rule 5 :(

it's apparently on rutracker as well, not sure if it's the current version or if it's going to be compatible lololol. bless rutracker

          Sounds like a plan!

The Russian piracy scene is amazing. I can't read a single character of Cyrillic but the things that even I am able to find on Russian piracy outlets is just fantastic.

The most current version appears to be v1.10, which is available on The Pirate Bay but I'd guess that rutracker has the same version available as well. Here's the magnet link to the version available on The Pirate Bay if you want it. I just grabbed it and ran it in Linux via Wine and it seems like it's working fine but obviously do your own due diligence and make sure that the download doesn't have anything sketchy like a virus.

I'm looking forward to getting your DM :)

alright, to anyone who lurked here thinking "hell yea, if i can use a pirated copy, i can just ditch steam and be with you all!"

            sadly... we were all wrong.

the pirated copies do work, i found one on the russia-based nosteam clean file warez group most of us already know. great, the game works! but only on lutris. wait, it had an optional "online fix" to add by replacing files. i can put that and get to business! we can finally pla- it stopped working and requires steam. i can't do that.

i will be fishing with you all in spirit, for i cannot be there in person. there IS a free but older version made for a gamejam on the creator's itch.io but it's more primitive, we don't want that, we want hats and punching and actual guitars that i do not know how to play but if i do i'd play the dwarf fortress theme constantly
