I'm not an american hahaha, no I've actually never heard of him. Makes sense John would refer to a real person in his song though.
I'm not an American either, but Nine Inch Nails has been a big deal for most of my lifetime. I get it if you're too young to remember, because they're pretty inactive nowadays, but Reznor's been making movie soundtracks for several years now.
