That show was like porn to teenage me, when it first came out. I'd stay up late patiently waiting for it come on.
I just watched the first episode of The Maxx minutes ago. WOW! Do you have any more recommendations for shows like The Maxx and Aeon Flux?
I vaguely remember an Alexander the great anime with similar art style to aeon flux, looking it up I think it was called Reign: the conqueror. Not sure if it holds up today, I was pretty young when I saw it
Umm there's genuinely not a lot of media that's similar off the top of my head, you might like Scavenger's Reign https://youtu.be/NWQH8cMpWTU or Primal https://youtu.be/co28PDKv2VY but the pickings for western animation with more adult themes is very sparse.
I loved Scavenger's Reign, I still have to watch Primal, though. Thank you!
Yeah Scavenger's Reign is genuinely one of the best pieces of media I've watched in a long time, tried getting my friend into it and my disappointment was immeasurable when it didn't vibe with her.
Same thing happened to me when I recommended it. I guess it was because of the rough scenes, the planet doesn't forgive you at all, one misstep and you are done! It made some people I know uncomfortable, they were expecting something a bit more relaxed.
Think we watched like 4-5 episodes, know we at least got up to the little guy that dies in the sea anenome and it just wasn't clicking.
I found YouTube links in your comment. Here are links to the same videos on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:

I loved The Maxx. Grabbed it at random when the first issue dropped. Had the whole opening monologue memorized. Was pretty happy with the cartoon. At one point I somehow got my hands on 13 copies of the first issue hoping it would take off. Never did.
Same to me as a kid when it was on liquid tv, my mom didn't want me watching it but I still sneaked it in.
lol ya. I wasn't supposed to be watching tv that late. I also vaguely remember sitting through dogboy, but I can't remember if I liked it or not. I just remember it being odd. and maybe kinda titilating?
The person who created the show previously worked on Rugrats and had been frustrated animating their short, stubby limbs.
