The data and the scientific projections and assessments now find that all three greenhouse gasses are going up faster then anybody ever believed they could.
Worse then all our predictions.
Worth going back to 20:00~ for context, but essentially our carbon sinks are failing to absorb anything, scientists thought they would start to fail after 2050 and it happened this past year.
i truthfully have yet to read the report, but the last time it broke into my circles when it came out - i think some commenter/poster had pointed out that the report said unless there was a massive economic change in systems we would stay on track for world changing climate.
The Hothouse Earth paper? Here is a clip of the doctor talking about it, we are going to hit all the tipping points. Even if communism happened tomorrow and we stopped burning all fossil fuels I don't see how 2c isn't going to happen. Our carbon dioxide levels are so catastrophically high.
huh, this paper is new to me - with your comment jogging my covid stricken memory, i remember another comment saying something similar, that even with full communism today we would still be struggling alot with climate.
though i think the original comment i made about systems was very subtlety suggested, which made me remember it because i think it was in a heavily redacted in a big IPCC report back in 2023
but yeah, shit is not looking great - i think second thought made a video about this
found the comment (i think)
>The authors of the IPCC report suggest that only an “immediate and radical transformation” of the global economy and governance would allow us to avoid the worst of the oncoming climate catastrophe. This kind of language is a marked difference from earlier IPCC reports, and reflects a growing sense of urgency and impending doom within the climatology community broadly.
