explaining the uyghur thing to someone who lives in china was pretty funny. like i had to explain to her she probably shouldn't talk about it with americans bc they'll be racist to her even if she gives personal accounts on meeting some uyghurs or whatever. you could see her brain exploding in real time

Trying to talk about almost anything of that nature here involves dancing around the 'activation phrase' for whoever you are discussing it with at a minimum. If you use the 'wrong terms', it's like activating a sleeper agent that's just incredibly racist/paternalistic/stupid
