A U.S. official with knowledge of the negotiations said Hamas made a last-minute revision that relates to the distance Israeli forces would withdraw from at least one largely populated area in Gaza that the official would not identify. The issue is expected to be resolved quickly and enable the ceasefire to begin as planned this weekend, according to the official, who was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.
In a briefing Thursday, David Mencer, an Israeli government spokesman, said the Israeli delegation of negotiators remained in Qatar, “continuing its efforts to reach a solution.”
Izzat al-Rishq, a senior Hamas official, said the militant group “is committed to the ceasefire agreement, which was announced by the mediators.”
Yeah this, the firefighter interview, the Bernie interview. It’s been great. He also said if the ceasefire holds, and if international parties are then allowed, he’s interested in going into Gaza. Scahill obviously cautioned him about the dangers associated with doing that (i.e. Israel can claim at any point that Hamas has violated the ceasefire and start bombing again) but they both agreed on the importance of international observers, journalists etc to document what has happened. They agreed to talk off-camera more about that.
Yeah, his firefighter interview was posted either in part, or had a screenshot and link posted by Kim Kardashian on her Instagram. That's not a celebration of Kim Kardashian, mind you, but she saw his content, thought it was good enough to post to millions of people. Who can say if there is any kind of trickle-down effects from that kind of signal boosting, but it's not something you see every day, that's for sure.
Going to Gaza, that's a wild idea. I can think of a specific content creator who is always up his ass who would probably never be caught inside the borders of Gaza, and would undoubtedly say he's only doing it for clout at this point. Talk about two diverging trajectories.
