Reading this thread makes me realize that a lot of people don't know how much free stuff is out there. Tabletop games, RPGs, music, etc. Loads of stuff

Tell you what, pay off my entire debt ($28K USD) and I'll do it for 3 years.

$10K is a lot to pay, but if you can ensure I am doing it legally, then I guess I could pay that. I would like all of the pay stuff blocked though, no ads or anything. Is it 10K per person, or per family?

For a year? Honestly, that might be worth doing for free just as an experiment.

I mean, look at Project Gutenberg. Easily a year's worth of top-tier books I have not read.

There's a ton of great freeware and FOSS games, too.

No idea what the movie situation is like tbh, but if it turned into a year where I just don't want watch movies, that seems doable. Again, something that might be worth doing for a year just as an experiment.

Oh wait, I misread. It's formerly paid content that is now free, not including things that were always free? I guess that still includes most of Project Gutenberg but no idea how it affects gaming or movies.

I mean I'm already kind of doing this reading super old books but 10k isn't worth the hassle if I find myself in the mood for something else.

10k just for not paying for stuff? I can still watch youtube, play free games. But can I buy board games or books though? Or go out to restaurants? Buy groceries?

That's why it's specifically paid content that is now free. You wouldn't be able to play a majority of free games available online or watch YouTube.

Physical objects like groceries aren't media you consume and wouldn't fit into the public domain.

I wouldn't say those count because they are still things you still do frequently need to pay for opposed to content in the public domain.

I think you'd be surprised by the amount of free content out there. A lot of it won't likely be your speed because of how tastes have changed over the years but I imagine you'd find some stuff you like.

Nosferatu, Little Shop Of Horrors, and House On Haunted Hill are examples of some popular horror movies in the public domain.

I presume in your hypothetical scenario I wouldn't be allowed to pirate paid content or even watch it at a friend's or play/read thanks to someone else. It'd be just magically out of my reach.

I might do it for 10k, if it's USD. If it's AUD I'd be on the fence, probably not although it depends on my finances.

Definitely, 10k usd in my country is enough for a down payment for a house. I can get by with free books with no problem (I already read books anyways). I'd miss watching shows, reading manga, and other things but there are tons of paid --> free stuff out there.
