I was on the collapse sub alot in 2016/17, and there was a lot of talk about how this sort of thing was speculated on but not observed yet.

Scientist played it very conservative to not scare people or seem like doomers. Some climatologists have expressed that this was a huge mistake.

A hundred years from now. Okay what ever.

That’s an interesting sub. Great insight into all sorts of civilization ending stuff. They are usually correct about the climate science but like half the posters just have shit reactionary takes from it. Although even if we like enacted eco-socialism like today worldwide a good amount of us are still fucked.

Why does the media need to invent these lofty terms for these phenomenons? Same when they called the Amazon "the lungs of the earth." These pieces never have any direct call for action anyway. So all it does is lead to nothing happening and then more dummies being like, "hey the sleeping giant woke and nothing happened. LIBRUL HOAX!!"

it's a well known and expected part of climate change, it's basically when it starts to get real

no need to go full doomer tho, as long as we can make the rich suffer the same consequences as the rest of us face to climate change then we'll figure it out eventually. also wind and solar are getting cheap so fast, we have decent chances of survival IMO

This, also we can always vote the methane back into the ice sheet when the time comes

          Broke: Voting the methane out

Woke: Getting the methane to make a statement saying Assad must go. The Lion will deal with it.

"Syria has just devoted 70% of its GDP to rollout of a massive set of Methane scrubbers. Assad claims he will have "forced all methane on the planet to submit to integration with Syria and renounce the Fascist-Islamist Turkish regime" within 5 years. "

Honestly though capitalism doesn't care about cheaper alternatives. There are so many markets that are obsolete yet nonetheless are propped up to keep the people who are deeply invested in the infrastructure and profits of that market happy. Oil is America's numero uno. We juiced up our military while everyone else was taking a knee from WWII and became the mafia of the world's most precious resource. The US is basically just the guy who avoids everyone in a Smash Bros. match and goes ham on whoever is left standing.

World will get slowly worse and worse and people will start dying. Probably the worst comes after we’re dead.

Unless you live in very specific places like the Bay of Bengal, an anoxic event is unlikely. and you'd lose consciousness immediately. Nope, starving sometime between 2045 and 2080 is your lot.

It won't make you choke to death. Starvation via global famine is the more likely scenario, but it won't be overnight.

This is probably why the Siberian ice sheet hasn't started to refreeze yet, though there's a big chance I'm wrong as I'm not a climate scientist
