I'm primarily referencing the people in the Kyle Rittenhouse post from a day ago, but as a general reference for the remainder of Hexbear.chat threads and forums where we have apologists for fascists and reactionary politics, policies, figures, and dog whistles.

In the context of this forum, or the internet in general, they are trolls. Their inciteful and hateful remarks are not made in good faith, and are meant to inspire frustration and attention.

Ideally, spamming pigpoopballs should be the response to bad faith trolls but sunlight is not the best antidote to their poison - removal of their poisonous dialogue is the best antidote.

I said it on the subreddit and I'll say it here. They shouldn't be removed until users get a chance to have their fun with them.

Yeah but sometimes it's just blatant hateful bullshit and should get removed right away.

Yeah that's somewhat more important, but I agree with both of you and I can trust the mods to make the right call.

Sure, if it going poorly to the point our dunks aren't sufficiently chastising them, or it's taking place in a comm that is explicitly supposed to be a safe space then a mod should step in, but the subreddit worked on the explicit premise that the users took out the trash and the mods just swept in afterwards to clear out the detritus left over.

This also helps sift out false positives -- people who aren't trying to be reactionary but are interpreted that way, or who have some unexamined beliefs but quickly come around.

A lot of those removed comment would've been accompanied by a bannin as well. I don't think anyone is disputing that the mods aren't working hard, but it's not like moderation hasn't changed around the time of federation either.

There's also a report button. If you see something that you genuinely think crosses the line, flag it for review.

The #1 thing you can do to help (besides becoming a mod, which you should consider) is report what you see. Reported content gets dealt with very quickly. Unreported content can get missed easily.

Yeah I feel like the bamhammer has been incredibly light as of late. It's outrageous, where's the TC69-thought that comes and bans everybody right away? This would never have been an issue on chapo.chat. Used be that if you did a transphobia you got banned. Liberals... We had a special ban for Liberals. Racism: banned right away, right away. You're being anti-communist: banned, sectarian: banned right away. Being too debatebroey: banned, not being debatebroey enough: also banned. You're being too fast at responding: banned. being too slow: banned. You start a thread and then don't respond to people answering you? Banned. You upvote hornyposts about transpeople: Banned. You don't upvote hornyposts about transpeople? Believe it or not, also banned.
We had the best posters in the world, and it was because of ban.

I know that's the format of the Fred Armisen ban bit, but it certainly appeared and felt more swift the response of banning these sorts of bigots, racists, and fascists in early Chapo-chat/Hexbear's days.

I suppose I am making a "vibes" based complaint but the sunlight-is-the-best-disinfectant is only appropriate on reddit and not on Hexbear, where it really felt like a safe-space to post, grieve, celebrate, and comment about the state of our lives, our place in the world, and the world itself. I don't really want to be exposed and barraged by bigotry, hate, white supremacy, and liberal/fascist anticommunism that asserts the rights to property and profit are supreme over human dignity and life.

Yeah I was referencing the bit, but to be honest I was being kinda serious (except about the ppb). It used to be that bigotry and debate-me-debate-me got cracked down on, and it isn't really pursued to the same extent any more, which I don't think is good. I think it did wonders for the site when some "just asking questions" very-intelligent or "strawman, appeal to authority, ad hominem" debatebro-l anti-communists got cracked down on. I think it's good that we get to bat them around for a bit, but it's not good that they don't get banned afterwards. There's been a lot more ableism as of late, and I don't like it. I got called a lunatic, and in Baracua that would have been straight to jail. I got misgendered and that would have been straight to jail. Now it's just "removed post".
Fed shit? Ohh you best believe bannin
