If the top candidate gets less than 50%, then and only then, do they eliminate the 3rd party candidates votes and move them to the first two. Currently, its 49.8%, 43.4% and 4.3%. The Independent, Lisa Savage, is progressive, and told her voters to make sure they have Sara Gideon as their 2nd choice. We might actually get to see this process take place, but its not looking good. Still cool that voting third party doesn't affect the election results negatively.
