Any company that has a product built on recurring payments will always tend towards becoming predatory in the money they need to extract because #1 they need to have pinch points to ensure they get money at regular, predictable intervals since they're a business and #2 because there is absolutely no reason for them not to turn the dial up on the micro-transactions -- up and up -- slowly until the profit gained is cancelled out by the quitting players.

Genshin Impact costs nothing to play, and even without spending cash on wishes players can enjoy the bucolic scenery and fantasy plot lines. But it’s hard not to get FOMO when the correlation between money and fun is so obvious especially when popular Twitch streamers and YouTubers have made such sport out of it

oh do fuck off you weird parasocial fucknugget

I was browsing twitch streams for the game to learn what "end game" looks like... and some weirdass was talking about how he spent 4000$ trying to get the one character unlocked and still didn't get it. I turned the stream off.

meanwhile here's me spending nothing and playing ~2 hours a day with a good team that easily keeps up with the content at Ar 40

      2. Fear of missing out basic human interaction
      3. Fear of missing out videogame DLC
